MICROCHIPS
A microchip is a micro-electronic device that is encapsulated
within bio-compatible glass. It is about the size of a grain of rice,
which is implanted under the skin. No anesthesia is required for
microchip placement.
Each microchip is manufactured and programmed uniquely for
your pet. Important information associated with the microchip is
entered into a database. Your name, veterinarian, and alternative
contact information will be available if your pet is found.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
If your pet is found by an animal shelter, they'll check for a
microchip using a special scanner. Most veterinarian hospitals are
equipped with microchip scanners as well.
When the shelter finds the microchip number, they call the
microchip manufacturer. After a quick search in the database, you,
your veterinarian, or an alternate is contacted.
Vista Animal Hospital uses AVID FriendChip because it is widely
used throughout the United States as well as the Idaho Humane
Society.
