Hyperthermia/Heat Stroke

Hyperthermia and/or Heat Stroke is usually caused by stress and
exposure to high temperatures.

Symptoms:
  1. Body temperature above 102.5
  2. Severe panting
  3. Vomiting and diarrhea
  4. Lethargy
  5. Shock

Treatment:
Seek veterinary care immediately. Bring the animal into a cooler
environment and fully immerse them in water. Recheck their
temperature often to make sure it returns to normal and does not go
any lower.

Prevent hyperthermia:
  1. During the summer months, never leave your animal in the car.
Parking in the shade and cracking windows does not prevent
    heat stroke.
  2. Never leave your pet confined to an area in direct sun.
  3. Keep water available at all times.
  4. During activity (running, hunting) rinse your pet down to the skin
    to lower the body temperature.
